Liberty Midlands Mall, Phase 3 – Opened March 2018
The Phase 3 extension, set for completion mid-March 2018, will add nearly 20 000 m2 of a gross lettable area to this already iconic Mall. The Mall boasts a current gross lettable area of 56 000 m2 and is located in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Its prime location along the N3 Highway attracts close to 700 000 visitors per month.
It is against this vibrant background that Liberty 2 Degrees is introducing the Midlands Phase 3 retail expansion project on behalf of the property owners, the Liberty Group.
The Liberty Midlands Mall Phase 3 development includes the extension of the existing Woolworths store that will grow the store from 3 800 m2 to 6 250 m2: with a new Checkers Supermarket, Planet Fitness, The Hub, Mama’s Plastics, News Café, Rochester, Coricraft, Volpes, Tekkie Town and other national tenants and restaurants.
With a slogan that promises a shopping world in one, over 168 stores strive to deliver on this maxim. Several national retailers anchor the high calibre tenant mix that offers a fantastic selection of international and local fashion, food and fun, all under one roof.
Phase 3 will provide an opportunity to offer shoppers additional variety, meet the growth requirements of some existing tenants and add new exciting tenants to the mix.
High demand from tenants prompted a second phase of development in 2006. In 2010, a 128¬ room StayEasy Hotel managed by Tsogo Sun was introduced to the precinct, and created the essence of a mixed-use precinct. All of these factors combine to present a unique lifestyle experience in the Kwazulu-Natal Midlands region.
Pietermaritzburg is considered a stable commercial environment with good economic growth prospects. The expansion project follows the Liberty Property Portfolio strategy to further strengthen their existing world-class retail portfolio. A significant investment will be provided in upgrading the immediate road infrastructure to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion to the Mall and surrounding area. The opening date of Phase 3 is planned for 15 March 2018.
